Chlamydia

    Chlamydia Trachomatis is particularly dangerous as it often causes asymptomatic or mild pelvic inflammatory disease that goes undiagnosed and untreated, yet can still lead to infertility.

    Chlamydia is a bacteria (gram-negative). They are the kind of bacteria that will only survive by establishing residence inside the animal cells. Chlamydia causes many distinct human diseases.

    Transmission: it spreads from person-to-person contact.

    Infections it can cause: eye inflammation (conjunctivitis), cervix inflammation (cervicitis) and inflammation in air sacs of lungs (pneumonia). It is “Chlamydia Trachomatis” that affects eyes, genitals and lungs.

    Urethritis is an inflammation of the urethra and one of the main causes of this is Chlamydia Trachomatis. Patients usually develop painful urination (dysuria) along with a mucoid discharge from the urethra.

    The cervix is a frequent site for Chlamydia Trachomatis. The inflamed cervix appears red, swollen and produces a yellow discharge. This infection may spread upto the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries if remains untreated. This is called Pelvic Inflammatory disease.

    Treatment: your doctor will most likely recommend a dosage regimen of doxycyline, macrolide or fluoroquinolone (antibiotics).
